A Sermon
What makes a sermon worth it's salt?
Who does it please? Who does it exalt?
Is it only an outline with a verse or two?
Mostly illustrations to show us what to do?
Some say the best ones are short and sweet,
Keep the preacher off both ours and his feet!
Some like it so hot, you can feel Hell's heat,
It's no good till you squirm in your seat!
But did we ask the one whose blood was shed?
We had better listen to the Words He said,
Preach the Gospel, preach it bold and free,
For it is His Power to save you and me.
Some will be offended, some will turn back,
His Word is still faithful, His promise is not
slack.
Preach the Word, nothing more or less will do.
Good and honest folks will be proud of you.
Hide behind the cross of God's dear Son,
He is the Message of a sermon well done.
We all are preaching our own sermon each day,
After we're gone from this life, What will it say
